Erysipelas is a cellulitis caused by a toxin of Strep. pyogenes and occasionally by streptococci of groups B, C and D. 11,12 It is characterized by an abrupt onset of fiery red swelling of the face or extremities. Distinctive features are well-defined margins, particularly along the nasolabial fold, rapid progression and intense pain (Figure ). While I was grateful to read the book, it left me wishing for a more modern treatment of the therapy with some scientific studies to support it. While I recommend reading this book, I also recommend Martha M. Christy's "Your Own Perfect Medicine," and "Urine Therapy" by Flora Peschek- Bohmer and Gisela Schreiber/5(). Erysipela is caused by the group A Streptococcus bacteria, which is the same bacteria that causes strep throat. The infection produces large, red bumps on the skin. In most cases, it mainly affects the face and leg areas. Learn more about this skin infection today!
